CUPS needs user name and password

I have this exact problem! I just posted my question. Has anyone answered you? I know almost nothing about UNIX, but at least found someone at Apple who told me how I could at least see that my faxes were sent. The faxing feature from Apple is pretty "half baked". I have no controls over sending, except through CUPS and that was only after three calls that someone mentioned it.
