still can't print with CUPS

I'm running linux slackware v.2.4.18. The cups software appears to work fine. I installed espgs and that works fine, too. When I type lpstat -p -d, the output is

printer EpsonSC850 is idle.
enabled since Sat Jun 24 23:39:33 2006
system default destination: EpsonSC850

And lpq yields
EpsonSC850 is ready
no entries

Yet when I try to print something from the command line, nothing prints; the job remains in the print queue. When I print from the CUPS admin site, it says "No pages found". I analyzed the error log, and discovered the following:

D [26/Jun/2006:20:27:40 -0700] [Job 37] GNU Ghostscript 7.05: Can't find initialization file gs_init.ps. (Note: the env var GS_LIB is defined to provide the path for gs_init.ps)
E [26/Jun/2006:20:27:40 -0700] PID 1560 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster) stopped with status 1!
E [26/Jun/2006:20:27:40 -0700] [Job 37] No pages found!
E [26/Jun/2006:20:27:40 -0700] PID 1561 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertoprinter) stopped with status 1!

Several days ago I tried upgrading my libraries because espgs wouldn't work. After I did that, I found that the symbolic links, e.g. ld-linux.so.2, were linked to the newer versions of the shared library images. I imagine that this has to do with the above errors. I haven't found a way yet to re-link to the original library versions, without disabling my entire system.

Any help you can offer would go a long way towards resolving this problem. I'd be very grateful for your help.
