Unable to create job backend pipes - Too many open files

Hi all,

I'm going to apologize in advance if this is a stupid question; but I've tried looking through the documentation and googling to no avail.  We're getting the error indicated in the subject line.  when it happens, all print jobs in our app go into a funky state. I've echoed a higher value to  /proc/sys/fs/file-max and then had a nasty thought - what if cups sets its own value?

Any info would be much appreciated
