I need this to ensure that only users from my department can print and to track how much they print. CUPS will need to check these user names and passwords using PAM. If any one could tell me what options to use where it would be greatly helpful

We don't need an accounting system, or more so, I don't think my superiors want one, and we do not currently use kerberos and I would rather not have to set it up for just one service, what configuration would have to be made on the client side if I ended up going the kerberos rout? But is there any other way to have user enter a user name and password that the CUPS server would have or have access to through openLDAP?

Thanks for your suggestion but I'm wondering if their is a simpler route
