possible to set Job states inside of a KSH filter?

Well, I know what "caused" the issue, but i'm not sure the best way to fix it. I had "PreserveJobHistory Off" so basically it would purge immediately turning it On seems to have fixed the hang, but i don't want to keep the jobs forever or set a MaxJobs. Anyone have a bright idea?
