But now I've run into another of cups foibles. After I had composed a
profile that does a fantastic job on a photo, using photo paper from the
top tray, I went on to compose a profile that does a speedy job on text,
duplex on duplex copy paper from the bottom tray.

THIS PRINTER CAN HAVE MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES! ALL AVAILABLE USING THE
SAME BROTHER SUPPLIED DRIVER.

So I compose that, test and save it AND IT OVERWRITES THE PHOTO
PROFILE!!!! WITHOUT AN ARE YOU SURE OR ANY OTHER INDICATION ITS ABOUT TO
OVERWRITE A WORKING PROFILE. Yes I'm upset. I would think that by now,
owners of $400 and up printers would have raised enough of a fuss to get
that fixed. As far as we are concerned, its a bug!

I had, when on wheezy, figured out a way to do this and had 5 different
profiles all setup and instantly useable, but that was long ago and far
away. Some field in the printers on screen profile must be unique while
still pointing to the same pile of hardware, and one would assume the
description field being unique would do, but bad dog, no biscuit. I did
NOT modify that printer, but added a printer, choosing the same model
number from the choices of printers to add.

So what "field" has to be unique in order for parallel, using the same
hardware but driven by differently edited ppd profiles, to be able to
co-exist on the same server? So that each one is truly a unique
capability printer?

Thank you

Cheers, Gene Heskett
